LA Family Housing
Welcome to Hertzberg’s Heroes! Every month, Team Hertzberg will highlight an organization or individual who exemplifies heroism through their dedication to making life better for the San Fernando Valley. Have a Hero to suggest? Submit your idea to Senator.Hertzberg@sen.ca.gov!
LA Family Housing aims to help families and individuals who are experiencing homelessness and navigate them into stable and permanent housing. With the passage of Measure H and HHH, LA Family Housing has seen an increase in staff over the past 12 months and they have been able to initiate real estate development for affordable housing units. LA Family Housing not only focuses on providing permanent housing units, but also makes sure that unhoused families can access immediate temporary shelter.
Marco Santana is a former staff member at Senator Hertzberg’s office and worked previously as a staff member for Congressman Cárdenas. In both offices, he worked on issue areas like health, housing, and public safety. In his career, Marco said that he has always known that he wanted to help people. Marco now serves as the Director of Engagement for LA Family Housing, where he and his team interact with every family and individual in need that walks through the agency’s front door.
As a community, there are many ways we can get involved with LA Family Housing. Knowing how to refer the agency is key. If you or someone know is experiencing homelessness, call the Los Angeles 2-1-1 helpline center for information and referrals for all health and human services in LA County. LA Family Housing encourages community members to get involved with their programs by volunteering, whether it be serving dinner at their temporary housing facility or taking a tour of the Bridge Site.

In Case You Missed It: Last week, Senator Hertzberg introduced SB 258, a bill that would provide additional shelter options for individuals experiencing homelessness who have pets. It allocates $5,000,000 in grants to be distributed to homeless shelters that provide shelter, food, and basic veterinary services to pets.
